In commemoration of International Women’s Month, Kol Nashim will join with two additional community women’s choirs  to present a benefit concert on behalf of SafeHouse Denver.

Fourteeners, under the direction of Leslie Britton, is the The Rocky Mountain Children’s Choir’s (RMCC)  select women’s choir, made up of advanced singers grades 5-12. RMCC actively seeks children from diverse backgrounds and offers the opportunity to experience musical excellence in a multicultural environment. Ms. Britton also conducts Impromptu, a community women’s choir. Impromptu will be the third participating choir.

When the singers take the stage in March, 90 women, ages 10 to 80, will raise their voices on behalf of battered women and children. The theme for the concert is empowerment of women, and all the musical selections will reflect that theme. A newly composed piece “Mother Earth”, by Denver composer Mercedes Campana, was commissioned for this concert, which will be the world premiere.

SafeHouse serves victims of domestic violence and their children through both an emergency shelter and a non-residential Counseling and Advocacy Center. All of the adults, children and youth who come to SafeHouse Denver have access to a full range of bilingual programming, including individual counseling, group sessions, advocacy and safety planning.
