Lighthouse Writers Workshop

The mission of Lighthouse Writers Workshop is to be a community-based literary center serving Denver and the Front Range, a place for the art and craft of writing, empowering writers and readers to engage, connect and transform. At every age, at every educational and socio-economic level, effectively expressing ideas and sharing them with others is essential to empathy and understanding in our diverse and rapidly changing society. Through the process of writing, of finding one's unique voice, of learning to express ideas through words, writers inspire, challenge and celebrate our complex world.

Lighthouse offers the highest-quality adult workshops for the lowest cost in Denver and Boulder.  Courses are available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced writers of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, screenwriting, and more, and range from 1/2-day to 8 weeks in duration, with intensive retreats offered twice a year.  Independent newspaper Westword has twice recognized Lighthouse as Denver's best literary workshop.   Many of our students have published work that they developed in workshops, and several have landed book deals through our summer literary festival, Lit Fest.

The Lighthouse Young Writers Program serves over 1,000 students each year, ages 10-18, in after school workshops, outreach programs at underserved schools throughout the metro area, and a summer writing camp.

Lighthouse fosters the thriving Front Range literary community through programs including the annual Writer's Studio, which brings a writer of national prominence to Denver; The Draft, a quarterly, free member reading series; Writer's Buzz, a free literary event series offering 8-10 events per year; an active blog (http://lighthouseblog.org) engaged with topics of craft and writing; a youth blog (http://lighthouseyoungwriters.org) and special collaborations with other cultural organizations throughout the year.
