Bluff Lake Nature Center

Bluff Lake Nature Center is an urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom. With 123-acres, the refuge has diverse habitats and an abundance of native plants and wildlife.

Bluff Lake Nature Center was formed as a nonprofit agency 14 years ago by citizens who fought to preserve the Bluff Lake site when Stapleton International Airport closed. During the first years, much attention was given to enhancing the wildlife habitat, restoring the banks of Sand Creek, building an interpretive trail system, and constructing open-air shelters. In tandem with that work, their Environmental Education Program developed into an award-winning science program for elementary students.

Each year, nearly 5,000 elementary students from Denver, Adams and Arapahoe county schools participate in Bluff Lake field trips. The learning doesn't stop during the summer when school ends. Bluff Lake Nature Center offers Junior Naturalist Summer Camps and Fireside Chats. There are always volunteer opportunities, or you can simply visit Bluff Lake for a walk around the gardens. Please make a plan to visit!
