Colorado Photographic Arts Center

The Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the understanding and appreciation of photography in all aspects and genres through promotion, exhibition, and education. CPAC is located at 3636 Chestnut Place, Denver, CO 80216. We are easily accessible by public transport, bike, or on foot, and are close to many restaurants and coffee shops. Downtown art galleries and MCA Denver are a short walk away. Exhibitions rotate every 6 weeks or less. Classes and workshops are hosted on-site and at various off-site locations. CPAC operates Denver’s only rental darkroom open to the public, which is located inside the historic Zang Mansion on Capitol Hill.

CPAC’s primary goal is to be the regional center for photography and associated media. We present a broad range of contemporary and fine-art photography to a broad community of students, collectors, hobbyists, artists, and out-of-town visitors. CPAC is unique in that it is Denver metro’s only non-profit organization dedicated to the medium of photography. We host an ongoing series of exhibitions featuring in-depth bodies of work by mid-career and advanced photographers. We believe that bringing photographers to CPAC from outside the region educates viewers and stimulates creative development. We also believe in giving opportunities to emerging photographers and hobbyists for whom showing in a gallery represents a significant step in professionalizing their artistic careers.

Kids Photography Week 2 is an annual event that encourages creative talent and develops career-based skills. Excursions to regional organizations such as the Denver Art Museum, Art Students League, The Butterfly Pavilion, and Denver Botanical Gardens give access to creative environments and stimulate the senses. Throughout the week, participants learn basic composition and color theory, fundamental calculations related to focus, exposure, natural light, and ways to produce photographs taken on-location and in workshops.
