Music holds all things together – it’s the connective tissue. Ars Nova Singers and Denver’s Stratus Chamber Orchestra will perform magnificent and famous music written specifically to connect: Intermezzo from Mascagni’s Cavaleria Rusticana, Puccini’s Humming Chorus from Madame Butterfly, and Mozart’s vibrant Regina Coeli (K. 276). As these pieces served to connect acts, scenes, and liturgy, Randall Thompson uses music to connect text, music and the human heart, setting music to the poetry of Robert Frost in his 1959 cycle of songs for chamber orchestra and chorus, Frostiana. Ars Nova Singers will also perform unaccompanied choral works by Anton Bruckner, Randall Thompson, Jake Runestad, and Juris Karlsons.

Denver’s Stratus Chamber Orchestra is changing the rules of engagement by performing classical music in unexpected ways and often in unconventional places. Stratus embraces both the time-honored concert tradition of audience as observers, as well as concerts that fully immerse the audience into the experience. Stratus has explored the musical energy of popping popcorn without a lid at the art museum, the excitement of a provocative evening of interconnectivity between storytelling and music, and even created our own multi-episode dramatic mystery series. All the while, Stratus Chamber Orchestra performs new commissioned works along with some of the greatest chamber orchestra repertoire ever written. Audiences are fully immersed in the experience while the artistic process unfolds.

Ars Nova’s 34th season is made possible in part by grants from the Avenir Foundation and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (Boulder County). The performances in the season are accessible to persons with disabilities. For complete accessibility information, please contact the Ars Nova Singers office at (303) 499-3165.
