The first great a cappella Mass setting of the 20^th century must undoubtedly be considered Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G minor for Double Choir of 1922.   And Vaughan Williams is increasingly being appreciated as not just the writer of a handful of perennial orchestral favorites, but as one of the truly great composers of the early 20^th century. Introducing the masterwork are a selection of shorter choral works by Vaughan Williams’ teachers, Hubert Parry, Charles Stanford, and Charles Wood.
