Opera ~ The Blood of the Rose/La Púrpura de la Rosa

La Purpura de la Rosa tells the tale of the famous, fated, forbidden love affair between Venus, Goddess of Love, and the very mortal and handsome Adonis. The Spanish libretto is filled with suspense, seduction, and comedy. The music is rich in harmonies, plaintive melodies and Latin American dance rhythms. First performed in Lima, Peru, 1701. Pictured: Grammy-nominated Jennifer Ellis Kampani, soprano with Nell Snaidas, guest director.
