Composing Climate: CONCERT CANCELLED
March 20, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$25Ludwig Van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”
Gwyneth Walker Earth and Sky ~ Featuring: Musica Harmonia String Trio
Dianna Link World Premiere (CU Composition Competition winner)
This program celebrates nature, but also raises concern about climate change. Beethoven himself named his Symphony No. 6, Pastoral, and provided a note for his first audience describing his Pastoral Symphony as “more an expression of feeling than painting,” along with descriptive titles for each of the movements. “I think all Coloradans can appreciate feelings surrounding being in nature,” CK. The program includes a work for String Trio and Orchestra entitled Earth and Sky by Gwyneth Walker. In addition to the string trio, it features narration using texts from Chief Seattle, Chief Joseph, and Henry Thoreau. The string trio is Musica Harmonia, comprised of Joan Griffing, Violin; Diane Phoenix-Neal, Viola; and Beth Vanderborgh, Cello. This year’s winner of the CU Boulder Composition Competition is Dianna Link. Link is writing a work for Pro Musica Colorado that will receive its world premiere on this concert. “Link is the first undergraduate to win the competition in a talented and crowded field. We’re looking forward to including her voice on our program.”
