From Tin Pan Alley to the Great White Way – Jewish Composers of the American Musical
January 3, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeThe Colorado Hebrew Chorale and its Women’s Choir, Kol Nashim are proud to feature Miryam Raizen who will present a fascinating new series: “From Tin Pan Alley Cats to the Great White Way – Jewish Composers of the American Musical.” The series will begin on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 PM on Zoom and will continue monthly until at least March.
Jewish composers have had a profound impact on Broadway since the earliest days of the American Musical. In this series we will examine the earliest roots of musical theatre and the composers of Tin Pan Alley, and the continued importance Jewish composers have had on the art form, from the days of “Show Boat” all the way to “Come From Away.
Miryam “Mimi” Raizen is a graduate of Metropolitan State University of Denver with a degree in theatre and a minor in history. Mimi has written, directed and acted in numerous theatrical productions, and enjoys studying the history of musical theatre. She has had a passionate interest in musicals since her Camp Ramah days, and has performed in many amateur productions. She sings soprano with Kol Nashim. She has spent many hours immersed in the music and history of Broadway, and is excited to be sharing her passion.
