L’Chaim! A Taste of Jewish Music from – Kazablan!

Dr. Seth Ward will take us on a virtual tour of old Jaffa, the setting for Israel’s most popular musical, Kazablan. The musical debuted in the 1960’s followed by a film in 1973 featuring singer Yehoram Gaon and the music of Dov Seltzer. Dr. Ward will summarize the story and history of the film as well as the ethnic tensions between Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jews it depicts. He will teach some songs from the musical and moderate a sing-along. Appropriate foods for the Jaffa setting include almonds, pistachios, and gefilte fish washed down with arak!
Participants will receive song sheets and recipes.
