One of the most recognizable of all 20th century choral works, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, completed in 1936, is based on a collection of 12th-century poems found at a Benedictine Monastery in Bavaria. Despite their monastic origins, the macaronic (Latin, German, French) verses are a reflection on the ageless pleasures of drinking, gluttony, and other transgressions of the flesh. The St. Martin’s Festival Singers collaborate with musicians from Metropolitan State University of Denver, including the Chorale and instrumentalists from their piano and percussion departments.
